Market Replay
What is Market Replay?
Market Replay provides historical market data playback functionality that allows you to experience past trading sessions as if they were happening in real-time. This feature is invaluable for:
- Practicing trading with the PriceSquawk using the in-built sim environment
- Training your ear for a market, listening to multiple sessions on-demand
- Analyzing historical market behavior by relistening to events play out and market phases
- Developing an audible trading strategy
The replay data simulates live market conditions, including price movements, volume, and trade flow, enabling you to develop your skills in a controlled environment.
Getting Started
When initially connecting to a replay feed, there may be a delay while the server loads the historical data. Please allow up to 1-2 minutes for the connection to establish and data to begin streaming.
What to expect:
- Initial connection may show "Waiting for data..." status
- Data loading happens on the server side
- Once loaded, the replay will begin streaming from the start time (typically 9AM ET)
- Subsequent reconnections to the same symbol are typically faster
This is normal behavior and ensures the replay data is properly prepared for playback.
Symbol Format
Market Replay requires day-specific symbols with the date suffix format YYYYMMDD.
Example:
MNQZ25-20251015- Replays MNQ December 2025 contract data from October 15, 2025
Day-specific replay sessions run from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM ET for that particular date, allowing you to experience 2.5 hours of concentrated market activity.
Using with Simulation Trading
Market Replay works seamlessly with PriceSquawk's built-in Simulation Trading widget. This combination is highly recommended for getting a feel for audible markets.
Benefits:
- Listen and Trade: Experience how price movements sound in real market conditions
- Risk-Free Practice: Take trades, manage positions, and develop your strategies without financial risk
- Immediate Feedback: See your trading statistics and performance metrics in real-time
- Develop Intuition: Train your ear to recognize market patterns and trading opportunities
To get started:
- Open a Traditional Widget (TradeSounds, TapeSignal, or TapePressure) with a replay symbol
- Add a Simulation Trading widget to the same dashboard
- Set the Simulation Trading widget as active
- Listen to the market and use keyboard hotkeys (4=SELL, 5=FLATTEN, 6=BUY) to trade or BUY / SELL buttons
Shared Replay Feed
The Market Replay feed is shared across all connected users. This means:
- When a replay session starts, all subscribers receive the same data stream simultaneously
- Multiple users can practice together on the same historical session
- The replay progresses at a consistent pace for all participants
- This creates a coordinated learning environment for groups or classes
Data Coverage
Current replay data coverage includes:
- Time Range: Generally 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM ET (2.5 hours)
- Symbols: Select futures contracts and instruments
- Dates: Various historical trading sessions
The focused 2.5-hour window captures the most active market period, including the regular trading session open and early morning volatility.
Restarting the Feed
When the Feed Has Ended
Once the replay feed reaches the end of available data (past 11:30 AM ET), you need to resubscribe to restart the feed from the beginning:
- Disconnect from the current symbol
- Reconnect to the same replay symbol
- The feed will restart from 9:00 AM ET
When the Feed Is In Progress
If you connect to a replay feed that is already in progress (e.g., currently at 10:15 AM), and you want to start from the beginning:
- Calculate the time remaining until the feed ends (11:30 AM ET)
- Wait for the feed to complete
- Reconnect to trigger a restart from 9:00 AM ET
Example:
- Feed started at 9:00 AM, currently shows 10:15 AM (1 hour 15 minutes elapsed)
- Wait approximately 1 hour 15 minutes for the feed to reach 11:30 AM and end
- Reconnect to start from the beginning
Current Limitations
The current time window (9:00 AM - 11:30 AM ET) and symbol selection are temporary limitations implemented for:
- Data Storage Optimization: Reducing server storage requirements
- Performance: Ensuring smooth playback for all users
- Resource Management: Balancing available infrastructure
These limitations will be expanded in future updates as infrastructure scales.
